A popular meeting point for artists, musicians and writers
Two pastry shops of the café Konditorei Zauner can be found in Bad Ischl: The parent house at the Pfarrgasse, the birthplace of the Zauner legend, and a subsidiary café on the picturesque “Hasner Allee” boulevard at the Esplanade. One attraction at the café is the relatively “modern” art nouveau parlour, which was painstakingly refurbished above the original café. Concerts, recitals and operetta performances take place here during the Lehár-Festivals Bad Ischl As it is Austrian tradition, the pastry store and coffee house Zauner is a meeting point for artists, musicians and writers. Playwright Johann Nestroy, actress Katharina Schratt (mistress and confidant of Emperor Franz Joseph) composers Franz Lehár and Oscar Strauss were among the many regulars of the café. Many anecdotes about the famous guests of the "Grand Café Restaurant Zauner Esplanade" in Bad Ischl are still in circulation.
