The oldest pipeline in the world
To transport the salt from Hallstatt town to Ebensee Lake a 40 kilometre long salt pipe line was built in 1507. 13,000 tree trunks were used to build the pipeline, which runs through the townships of Bad Goisern, Lauffen and Bad Ischl. 1607 was the year the pipeline was used for the first time. Today it can be visited as the oldest pipeline in the world – here in Austria’s Salzkammergut. The path is divided into 4 stages, each 10 kilometres long.
