Franz Lehár bought the villa from the Duchess of Sabran in 1912 and spent almost every summer at this inspiring house. As laid down in the will of the composer, the villa houses a museum today. The rooms were left as much as possible the way they were furnished and arranged by Franz Lehár. The composer was an avid collector of precious paintings, exquisite pieces of furniture and personal souvenirs. Furthermore, the villa of the composer of operettas houses a unique art collection well worth seeing.
The villa in Bad Ischl was the composer's favourite place to create his art. Once he said: “I have my best ideas in Bad Ischl”. Ten laurel wreaths on display in one of the historic rooms bear testimony to the prolific work of the composer. The laurel wreaths were the equivalent of gold records at the time of Lehár. Every time one of his works proved especially successful, the skilled composer was able to add a further wreath to his collection!
