Daffodil Festival On the 28th and 29th of May 1960 the region known as Ausseerland held its first Daffodil Festival as a spring celebration. The annual Daffodil Festival has since become a highlight of the spring season and it has developed into the largest flower festival in all of Austria.
The daffodil found in the region of the Ausseerland is the so called “poet's daffodil” or “findern flower”. This flower originates in southern Europe. It came to central Europe during the middle ages and is a common and popular flower of the Salzkammergut region today. Depending on the altitude the poet's daffodil is in bloom between the middle of May and the end of June. The beautiful meadows with their fragrant white flowers bring special joy to the guests of the family-run traditional Hotel Goldener Ochs at this time of the year.
The preparations for the Daffodil Festival start as early as September. More than 3,000 helping hands make the annual Daffodil Festival of the Salzkammergut region a special experience for all the senses. More than 30,000 guests are drawn to these unforgettable festivities every year. More than 40 lavishly decorated cars take part in the motorcade and between 30 and 40 boats form the annual boat parade. More than 30,000 daffodil blossoms are used in the decorations. The annual Daffodil Festival is an attraction for guests of all ages.

Between Friday May 21st and Sunday May 24th 2009 the Daffodil Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary. The election of the “Daffodil Queen” and an evening of traditional music with the famous car and boat parades will be the highlights of the festival.
