The Salzkammergut Trophy
An unforgettable event for mountain bikers
With more than 4,500 entrants from 44 nations, the Salzkammergut Trophy is Austria's largest MTB marathon. The long route through the Hallstatt, Dachstein, Salzkammergut region UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most impressive marathon routes in Europe. Besides seven different distances there is also the tried and tested mixed programme, which turns the weekend in Bad Goisern into an unforgettable party for mountain bikers: unicycle downhill, Junior Trophy, helicopter flights, party marquee, Ö3 disco, pasta party, exhibition area, and much more.
Bad Goisern – the centre of mountain biking
Anyone who is familiar with Bad Goisern also knows that the market town is a hideaway for anyone looking for relaxation. But once a year the town centre is transformed into a bottleneck where the international mountain biking scene comes together. On this one weekend a state of emergency is declared in a positive sense.
Fans of the mountain bike sport travel to Bad Goisern from more than 40 nations to compete against the best in the world. In the meantime there are more than 4,500 riders on the move throughout the entire interior Salzkammergut tourist region over 7 marathon distances.
211 km have to be conquered
You have to get up early to see the start of the extreme distance of 211 km. Up to 600 riders attack this route at 5.00 a.m. More than half will not make it, the following sayings are not quoted without good reason: "to hell and back" and "only the toughest make it".
The next starting shot for the 120 km distance is then fired at 9.00 a.m. An incredible up to 1,300 motivated bikers line up along Marktstraße and wait for the ready, steady, go to be given. This route together with the 53 km is one of the most popular, where 1,300 fit calves are lined up at the starting line.
At around midday at 11.45 a.m. and 12.15 p.m. the amateur bikers then hop into the saddle and set off. There is another start in Obertraun, where the 73 km distance has been offered since 2010.
All distances can be tackled by amateur and fun bikers without a licence or any other qualifications - the main focus is on enjoying the sport.
